Why Hire a Personal Chef for a Dinner Party?
Have you ever thought about skipping the restaurant stress and bringing the fine-dining experience into your own home? Hiring a personal chef for a dinner party not only gives your guests an unforgettable evening, it can also save you money, stress, and time compared to dining out.
Typically, What Does a Personal Chef for a Dinner Party Do?
A personal chef handles everything so you don’t have to — menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, plating, serving, and even full cleanup at the end of the night. Think of it as bringing a restaurant right into your home, without the gamble of inconsistent service or inflated restaurant bills.
What are the Reasons to Hire a Personal Chef for a Dinner Party?
Customized Menu Options
Working directly with me, the chef, you’ll create a totally unique menu based on your desires and any dietary restrictions. Even your guests will have separate dishes based on their dietary needs!
Saves Time
Hosting can be stressful. Shopping, prepping, cooking, serving, and cleaning usually leave the host exhausted. With a personal chef, you get that time back to actually enjoy your own dinner party while everything is handled for you.
Restaurant-Quality Experience at Home
Recently, I took a good friend of mine out to a really nice dinner (or so I thought it would be), and at the end of the evening received the bill from our server. It took about ten minutes before anyone even greeted us or poured water when we first sat down (in private dining we have waters poured before the guests even sit down), and when our alcoholic drinks were empty we were made to feel rude asking the server/chef for another. The food was fantastic, but a couple dishes surprisingly came out cold. When we saw the bill, we were a little shocked.
Now, I understand how much it costs to run a restaurant, since I spent over a decade working in them as a chef and running their financials. I think when people are spending more than ever to dine out, they should feel pretty taken care of, instead of sticker shock. Whether it comes down to being understaffed in the front of the house, poor training, or not spending enough for qualified employees, it exposes large weak points in restaurant dining.
The funny thing that I encounter in talking about price with potential private dining clients, is that it often costs less than eating at a restaurant with lower standards!
Impress Your Guests!
We bring all of our own dishes, silverware, napkins, and printed menus (think of it as bringing a restaurant right to your home). A service professional (along with myself) will wait on you and your guests completely. Remember the part about the gamble of bad service at restaurants? That variable doesn’t exist with private dining, because you are our only guests for the evening. Water and wine refills happen without you having to ask, each dish is timed perfectly and cleared, and the evening flows seamlessly.
FULL CLEANUP. I cannot even count how many times we have had rave comments about how much we clean at the end of a private event. To me it feels like the perfect ending to say thank you to a client, even more than dessert.
What to Expect When You Hire Chef Chris for Your Dinner Party
I purposely keep my pricing very simple – a per person price (usually between $100–$150 per person, very much depending on the scenario and headcount). This breaks down into ALL of the costs involved – the cost of food (which I pay for), my time and physical prep (which I think should be worth a decent amount), and whatever is left is how I pay myself.
I have seen several other chefs charge a slew of fees and a “smaller” per person price, but that tends to make the client feel less taken care of, and more like a line item.
